If you’re not on Instagram, then where are you? The whole world is online and if your business hasn’t embraced social media, you’re missing out on a very lucrative opportunity to get your business out there. The lash industry has a lot to gain from a social media presence, especially since it is very photogenic. So if you want to learn how to attract these customers, here are some tips to get you started.
Turning Looks to get the Likes
As an eyelash artist, you’ve probably already perfected the art of taking breathtaking photos. Now is the time to put this skill to good use and upgrade it. Instagrammers love aesthetics. Think about your approach to your photos and videos and create a common theme that will be the focus of your account.
Insider Tip: If design isn’t your strong suit, you can easily buy a set of Instagram post templates on Etsy, that are specially designed for lash artists!
Be smart with your #hashtag
If finding new customers is your top priority, make sure you’re using the right hashtag to attract the right audience. If you’re an eyelash artist based in Newport Beach, for example, 1,000 likes from people in Japan won’t mean much to your eyelash business because they’re not going to fly to Newport to get eyelash extensions!
Always add your location to the hashtag so your posts target specific people in your area. For example:
#lash extensionNewport Beach #lashsalonNewport Beach #lashartistNewport Beach
Also, maybe add some non-lash-related but beauty-related hashtags like:
#hair removalNewport Beach #hair salonNewport Beach #nail salonNewport Beach #browlaminationnewportbeach
People looking for other beauty treatments such as waxing, manicures, and eyebrow waxing are very likely to be potential eyelash clients. Even if you don’t offer these services yourself, through the hashtag, they know about your salon and eyelash extensions thanks to the hashtag.
You don’t need 1 million followers
Having a few million followers on Instagram looks impressive, but it actually has nothing to do with how your business thrives. In fact, having a lot of followers who aren’t your target audience actually confuses Instagram’s algorithm and will attract more spammers, not customers!
Instagram algorithms determine the content Instagram users see in their news feeds based on the type of followers you have, hashtags you use, and engagement from other Instagram users.
Stop doing ‘follow for follow’ with other lash artists! If you are followed and liked by many fellow artists, Instagram’s algorithm serves your posts to more lash artists rather than your potential customers.
When it comes to fans, quality definitely trumps quantity.
Improve your resume
One of the first things a potential customer will see about you Instagram lash business the account is your resume. Your bio gives the viewer a taste of what they can expect from your particular profile. Don’t forget to add the following:
- The location of your salon
- Working hours
- Your specialty
- Website link if available
Take advantage of reels and stories
Instagram stories quickly became even more popular than the posts themselves. Some people even just post stories and nothing else. While we don’t recommend doing this as a business, you can take full advantage of both Instagram Stories and Reels to increase your reach. And while with posts we don’t recommend creating more than one per day, you can upload multiple stories per day. Just make sure they are fun and entertaining.
Reels, on the other hand, will post like a regular post on your page, but are longer videos that you can use to highlight some of your processes or even provide tutorials to customers on how to use certain products. The possibilities are endless!
Add more fans with Instagram ads
While Instagram is free to use, when you’re just building your brand, it’s wise to invest in a paid post or two to grow your fan base. The great thing about these ads is that you can target them to people of a certain age who live in your area.
Not only that, but you can also target users with similar interests. We recommend that before you post your first ad you already have at least 9 posts, if not more. With just one photo, people can click on your username in the ad, see just the one photo, and decide they don’t want your eyelash services at all. If you do it right, you’ll have hundreds of new followers in record time.
Happy hitting (and posting)!
