The eyelash industry is a billion dollar industry which looks set to continue to grow. Whether you work in the industry or are considering starting your career as an artist, knowing your earning potential is an important part of the business.
Here’s what to think about when it comes to making money.
Where are you in your career?
When you’re first starting out as a lash artist, you’re still learning and developing – this is usually reflected in your prices. Experienced eyelash artists may charge more. Keep learning and enhancing your knowledge to increase your earnings!

Being a self-employed lash artist
Where you work and who you work for makes all the difference to your earnings. If you work in a salon or franchise, you will pay rent or a percentage back to the salon. If you are self-employed, you usually keep your earnings.
You need to factor in inventory, marketing and facility costs when calculating how much you earn, as this can vary.

The hours you work
A career in eyelashes can be really versatile. You can work the hours you want and see as many clients as you need. More whipping hours = more money (unless you decide to charge more!)
Let’s say your prices are $120 for a volume set and $60 for fillings. If we calculate the average, you have 4 appointments (two sets + two fills) per day. You will make $360 per day, which is $2,160 per week (minus one day for your vacation day). Multiply that by 50 weeks a year (taking holidays into account) and that’s $108,000 a year!
Who is your customer?
Raising your prices doesn’t have to mean driving customers away. It can bring a different kind of customer to your lash chair, who isn’t necessarily looking for the cheapest lashes.
Look for clients who value your level of skill and experience – they want to pay extra to know they’re being beaten by the best!
Eyelash style
Volume and mega volume sets are more expensive than classic or hybrid sets, so it’s not just about focusing on big lashes! Classic sets need refills more often than intensity sets, so take that into account as well.
Take the time to work out an average profit per set so you can understand where your time is best spent and where you can make money!
Where you whip
Location location. Yours location it will make a difference to what you charge per set – it varies around the world and then again in each country. As a general rule, busier areas (such as cities) and luxury salons in high demand can charge more. However, you may pay more in rent.
Offering training to other lash artists
Offering training is a great way to increase your income as well as share your knowledge and inspire others. You’ll make more profit by offering training than you do to customers. There is a cost and it takes more time to train, but it can be much more financially rewarding.
