Being a mom can be a very difficult job, especially in the first few months. There’s a lot to consider for the health of yourself and your baby, and there’s a lot you might have to give up.
But does that mean you have to give up on self-care? Will you have to say goodbye to beautiful eyelash extensions for the next nine months? Not necessarily.
Consult your lash technician about potential risks and work together to find pregnancy-safe solutions.
Possible risks of getting eyelash extensions during pregnancy
Sensitivity to chemical products
In pregnancy, women should stay away from harsh chemicals, which in the eyelash industry are more prevalent in the glues we use. Research has yet to be done on the effects of eyelash glue on pregnancy, so if you’d rather not risk it, it might be best to hold off on dating until after your little one is born.
Glue allergy
Expectant mothers are limited in the types of medications they can take when something happens, as these medications have the potential to harm the baby. If you’re waiting, but have previously had eyelash extensions without problems, you’re likely to be OK to continue getting them without the risk of an allergy to the glue.
If you’re a first-time mom AND a first-time customer, you might want to think again. If you end up with a glue allergy, it will be much more difficult to deal with, and we all know you don’t need any more uncomfortable situations than you already have as a pregnant woman.
Lying down for a long time
After the 20-week mark in your pregnancy, you should avoid lying on your back for too long. Eyelash extension application can take more than two hours in one session, and this is very dangerous and uncomfortable for an expectant mother.
If you really need a great set of lashes late in your pregnancy, consult your lash technician so you can lie on your side for the application.
Instructions for eyelashes
As an eyelash artist, your priority is the safety and comfort of the client. This is especially true when it comes to any pregnant customer who wants to make an appointment.
To guide your prospective customers, be sure to:
- Thoroughly explain any potential risks
- Ask the customer to sign a waiver, especially when it comes to the use of chemicals in the process
- Always run a patch test
- Use sensitive glues like Lily glue or Advanced glue
- Use only fresh eyelash glues. Throw glue past him lifetime.
- Always hold antiallergic gel near
- Give them plenty of breaks during the appointment
- Enter alternatives to eyelash extensions like eyelash growth serum
If you are an eyelash artist, be sure to wear a high coverage mask such as an N95 to protect yourself from exposure to the glue.
(For lash artists) Other tips to avoid glue exposure:
- Hold a jade stone on the side of the customers head is preferable to a glue ring
- Work in a well-ventilated area
- Dispose of the used glue pallet in a metal pedal bin with a lid
New moms are allowed to continue to treat themselves in whatever way they feel is best and safest for them. Your job as an eyelash artist is to help them know the risks of eyelash extension application and provide them with safety and comfort options if they choose to go ahead.
If you’re pregnant and want gorgeous lashes for that first selfie with your new baby, be sure to do your research first and chat with your lash stylist about your options.
