Go closer
If the lashes you choose are too long, they can end up weighing on your client’s natural lashes, which can lead to a droopy look. Using very long lashes at the outer corner of the eye can sometimes also create the illusion of a droopy, droopy eye.
Either way, be sure to choose the right lash extension length for your client and create a lash map that will flatter their eye shape. You may find these articles useful:
Go Thinner
Thick, heavy lashes can also pull your client’s lashes down, not to mention can put pressure on their lash line and lead to damage.
Choosing the right thickness is a science, so I highly recommend reading the guide below to make sure you get it right: Eyelash Extension Thickness: How to Choose, Chart and Calculator
Use a stronger curl
If you know that the length and thickness of the lashes are perfect, the issue may simply be that your client’s lashes are naturally too curled. Choosing a stronger curl will create the lift you need. If you’ve used C lashes, try CC or D. If you’ve tried D lashes, then try DD or even L lashes.

Suggest an eyelash lift
Another fantastic option for clients with very straight or angled lashes is the lash lift. If it’s not a service you offer, it’s worth taking the time to get certified as it works so well in conjunction with eyelash extensions. You’ll want to do the lash lift first and then follow it up with the lash extension application.

Brush
If your lashes seem to be falling out, it’s possible that they just need to be fluffed up a bit. Sometimes, matted lashes can fall forward due to their combined weight. Using a clean spoolie, detangle gently from top to bottom.
Washing
Do you wash your eyelashes every day using a special eyelash extension brush and shampoo?
If you’ve fallen behind on your aftercare, give your eyelash extensions a good wash. Otherwise, residue and oil build-up can cause lashes to loosen, not to mention it can damage your lashes and overall hold.

Talk to your stylist
If brushing and washing didn’t do the trick, you should talk to your stylist. Take some photos to show the drop and ask for a consultation before your next appointment. It could be a simple problem to solve with slightly lighter or curlier lashes.
Why are my eyelash extensions falling out?
To understand why your eyelash extensions fall out, start by thinking about when it happened. Did they look a little droopy right away when you left the salon or was it just a few days after your appointment?
If your lashes looked droopy to begin with, your stylist may need to change something about the application. If they started to loosen later, you will probably need to adjust some of your aftercare.
With that in mind, here are the main factors:
- Your natural lash angle it can be angled, so eyelash extensions that don’t curl up enough can end up looking droopy.
- Inappropriate aftercare as a lack of brushing or cleansing can lead to build-up or tangles that can cause eyelashes to fall out and even droop in the eyes.
- Sleep on your stomach with your face pressed into the pillow you may end up denting your extensions.
- If your extensions are too big, long or heavy they can weigh down your natural lashes.
- The wrong style they can look droopy even if the lashes themselves aren’t too heavy or curly. In particular, a cat-eye style with very long lashes at the outer corner can make downward-facing eyes look even more sleepy.
- Although this is incredibly rare, excessive heat it can change the curl of your eyelash extensions. In particular, this can be an issue for people who work in kitchens or other very hot environments where the extensions are exposed to extreme temperatures for long periods of time.
The bottom line
It’s hard to fix lashes that already look droopy. If you’re a stylist, focus on prevention by choosing the right lash size and curl. If you’re a client and your lashes are looking a little droopy, a little aftercare often does the trick. If it doesn’t, talk to your lash stylist about possible fixes.
Either way, the key is to determine why your eyelash extensions look droopy in the first place.
